Girls JV Soccer Earns Another Shutout Against Kalamazoo Central

Game Date

KALAMAZOO CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL: 0

Four matches for the JV squad, 4 clean sheets! A great start to the season is often important for building momentum, and the girls have plenty of that going their way! An 8-0 rout of Kalamazoo Central, who were playing their first match of the young season, gives OHS their third mercy rule victory of the year.

Sabrina Powers had the opening two goals with just two minutes separating them. Carley Blanchard hit from outside the 18 just two minutes later for the third goal. Raygen Meurer got in on the action in the 20th minute as she smashed it past the helpless Kalamazoo Central keeper. Jayden Jameson dribbled past a couple would-be defenders and tucked one away to put her team up 5-0 just a minute after Raygen tallied her goal. Ellie sweet took a beautiful left footed shot that nestled into the left side of the goal for Otsego's sixth of the night. The seventh goal came with five minutes remaining in the first half as Raygen slow rolled a ball through traffic and past the keeper. Though it looked to be a mis-hit, they all count the same! Assists on first half goals came from Meurer, Powers, Bri Mathews, Jameson, and Blanchard.

The second half was a time for the girls to work on a few things in a game setting. They went out in an attempt to get a goal from aerial play, and after a number of attempts in the first ten minutes, they accomplished their goal. With Sabrina Powers taking over in goal, Emma Moore was free to come out and see her first field minutes of the year. The girls were serving good balls into the box, and may were going just wide or being swallowed up by the keeper. On a ball driven across the face of goal from right to left by Meurer, Emma calmly took a touch and then hammered home a left footed volley off the hop to close out the game. It is always a great moment when you can get your goalkeeper in on the scoring, and it was nice to see how much fun the girls were having with it!
