Girls Varsity Soccer vs. South Haven HS School

Game Date
May 1, 2019
Score
: 6
SOUTH HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL: 1

Otsego traveled to South Haven on a gloomy and wet day to play their fourth Wolverine Conference match of the season. Right about the halfway point of the season is where coaches generally take stock of their team and see where they are and what they need to work on. Finishing chances had been an issue for Otsego heading into this week, and the girls had all worked very hard on the training ground in an effort to improve in that area. With eight goals Monday, and what would be six goals in this affair, the Bulldogs feel like they have made some adjustments and are on the road to curing that ill.

Alison Diller continued her torrid pace with another hat-trick to go along with two helpers. That performance puts her at eleven goals and six assists in the last week alone! Rylie Henckel also continues to find the score sheet with a two goal/one assist performance, giving the Freshman an even five and five during the same span. Cait Kitchen scored in her third of the last four matches, and finally looks to be shaking off the early season ankle injury that has hampered her a bit to this point. Avery Henckel rounds out the score sheet mentions with a lovely assist to her twin in the eleventh minute of this one.

It wasn't all roses and rainbows as the Bulldogs did give up their first conference goal of the year. A couple miscues in the back on a long ball allowed it to fall to a South Haven attacker in the box. Their number 5 made no mistake as she put it in from the middle of the box, making the score 4-1 at that point. Otsego would tack on two more after that to insure that the result was in their favor. Senior keeper Matti Rayman had a much busier night in this one, making 7 saves in the victory.

Every Otsego player saw the field again in this one, including a couple players called up from the JV squad who played very well in their minutes. A rough field, a chilly and wet night, and a gritty and fast performance from a young Rams squad made the night interesting. The South Haven keeper made 11 saves in the loss, and was out off her line multiple times to throw her body in front of attackers. With only a hand full of upperclassmen, the future looks positive for South Haven.

Otsego is off until next Monday when they host Three Rivers on Senior Night!
