Girls Varsity Soccer Sends Edwardsburg Home Early

EDWARDSBURG H.S.: 0

It was to be a short evening at Bulldog Stadium as bottom of the table Edwardsburg came to face league leaders Otsego. The scoring came early and often in this one, and the Eddies had no answer for the pressure put on by the Dawgs. The wet turf only played into the hands of the hosts as they set out to play a fast and explosive game, and three goals in the first five and a half minutes set the tone.

Senior Alison Diller had herself a night, and set the program record of six goals in a single match Monday night. It only took her to the 31 minute mark to do so, and it was almost certain that she'd have a chance to challenge for the record after she recorded a hat-trick in the first six minutes of play. That marks three straight seasons where the previous mark has been either broken or tied. Erica Drobny set the new mark of five goals in a game back in 2017, and Grace VerHage tied the record in 2018.

The Kitchen sisters netted the other two Otsego goals on the night, Cait with a steal and score from the top of the box in the sixteenth minute, and Cara with her career first just three minutes later. A three pack of assists on the night for Rylie Henckel gives her eight on the year. Ashley Hathaway, Cassidy Engels, and Lexus Putt all record assists as well. Matti Rayman started the match and did not record a save. She was replaced with eight minutes to go by Emma Moore, who made two saves in her season debut to close this one out for the Dawgs.

Otsego improves to 10-1 on the year, and travels to South Haven on Wednesday.
