Fennville traveled to Bulldog Stadium Wednesday night for a clash that could preview a district tournament matchup. It turned out that both squads' toughest opponent on the night might have been the elements! Sleet and rain poured down during the majority of the match making the surface slick. The temperature and wind made it impossible for the players on either side to get comfortable.

Lauren Nieboer opened the scoring with a chip of the Fennville keeper from 20 yards out. Up 1-0, Otsego looked for more and sent a few solid chances high or wide in the first 20 minutes that could have allowed them to pull away. Fennville drew level midway through the first half as a spinning, skipping ball squirted in past Goalkeeper Matti Rayman at her near post. Apart from that, Matti would prove to be very sound the rest of the match on what was a very difficult night to be a keeper.

The Dawgs came out of halftime level at 1-1, and again looked to control play in the Fennville end. In the fourth minute of the second frame the breakthrough finally came, and McKenzie Milton put one home that skipped past the keeper off the slick turf. Otsego controlled the majority of the game from then on, but Fennville looked strong on the counter-attack. Taylor Schuesler and the rest of her back line had to work hard to kill off a couple Fennville breaks late in the match.

Senior midfielder Lauren Nieboer earns Player of the Game honors for her tireless work rate and ball winning in the midfield. Those are both staples of Lauren's game, but the goal was a sweet cherry on top for one of our workhorses! 

Otsego travels to Holt to take on a tough Division 1 opponent this Saturday. JV at 11am, and Varsity at 12:30pm.
