Score
: 1
ALLEGAN HIGH SCHOOL: 2

It was Senior Night at Bulldog Stadium, and two teams entered the night undefeated in Conference play. Only one of those teams would leave with the ability to say that. Everyone knew this would be a match that was full of passion with a lot on the line, and the match did not disappoint. Adrenaline was running high, and the Bulldogs honored their Seniors and entered the ring prepared for a fight.

The first 10 minutes of the match saw Erica Drobny draw two hard fouls from Allegan defenders, both of which resulted in yellow cards for those players. Allegan was moving the ball well through Senior Joy Hunziker, and created some nervy moments for the Bulldog defense. In the 20th minute Drobny again drove into the penalty area and was brought down by an Allegan defender, earning her team a chance to take a first half lead. Gracie VerHage stepped up to the spot and dispatched the penalty without any doubt to make the score 1-0. From then on, the visitors tilted the field and Otsego struggled to find a way to create chances. The Allegan back line sat deep, and disconnected from their mids and forwards. The Bulldogs had trouble executing their game plan, and were showing frustration at the physicality that Allegan was employing. Thirteen minutes before halftime, Allegan leveled the score when a ball was whipped in from the right side to an unmarked player back post who headed the ball home past goalkeeper Ambreanna Powell.

The second half was more of the same, both teams attempting to impose their will on the match and Allegan doing a better job of it. In the 60th minute they earned a corner kick to the left side of the Otsego net, and buried a ball far post to put themselves in the driver's seat. Otsego knew they had to make a change if they were to get back into the match, and would throw numbers forward in order to generate more attack. The Dawgs nearly leveled the score when Gracie VerHage redirected a cross just wide of frame with less than 8 minutes to go. That was to be Otsego's last good chance to claw back into the match.

The girls showed their disappointment after the match, and it is certainly a huge blow to their goal of winning a Wolverine Conference title. The girls go into their final two matches needing to win out against Dowagiac and Plainwell to have a shot at the title, but will need help in the form of Allegan stumbling.

Player of the Game honors go to Senior Captain Erica Drobny.
