LOY NORRIX HIGH SCHOOL: 0

In their final non-conference match of the season, your Bulldogs traveled to Kalamazoo to take on the Knights of Loy Norrix. In what was to be a battle of two different styles, Otsego coaches knew this match would be a good test for the girls going forward. Norrix is physical and quick, and have a couple very good central midfielders. The match was intense from the onset, and never really hit a lull in the action.

Much of the early going saw Norrix play balls over the top or into wide channels in an effort to spring their pacey striker. Senior defender Kara Jubenville had other ideas. She shut down that plan time and time again, with help underneath from center back Alexis Petty. Otsego struggled to win the center of the park, as that was where the majority of the talent for Norrix was located. The Bulldogs did, however, have an advantage in wide areas and would look to exploit that throughout the match. In the 26th minute, Captains Drobny and VerHage hooked up to put the visiting squad up 1-0 on a beautifully played diagonal ball over the back line from VerHage which Drobny deposited past the keeper with precision.

From then on, the Otsego back line was called on to make many important tackles and clearances as the Knights pressed for an equalizer. The Norrix goalkeeper made an error midway through the second frame, and scuffed a clearance right to a waiting Gracie VerHage. The keeper quickly recovered to make a fingertip save on Gracie's effort from distance, bailing herself out of what could have been an embarrassing moment. Drobny continued to work hard to win the ball and drive forward on the dribble, as did Cait Kitchen. Neither could find the end product as the Norrix defense collapsed on them and snuffed out a few good chances.

In the end, that first goal from Gracie to Erica would be the difference in the match. The Bulldogs walked off the field with a 1-0 win against a determined opponent. Player of the Game awards were given to Ambreanna Powell and Erica Drobny.
