VICKSBURG HIGH SCHOOL: 1
A performance that was lacking in nearly every area was a difficult thing to watch. It was also a difficult pill to swallow for the players as they are fully aware that they didn't play up to their potential. They are also aware of the dent that result put in the armor of a team that has been on a roll since the loss to Holt. Even in that match, the players believed they had played well, and just gotten a bit unlucky. This was a different story altogether.
From minute one Vicksburg was in full steam ahead, afterburners on, GO mode. Otsego came out absolutely asleep, and just a couple minutes in were stunned as a third-chance opportunity from a corner kick found the back of the net. The team had given up an early goal in their first match of the season, so this wasn't uncharted territory, but Vicksburg didn't look like they wanted to give up the fight and remain happy with one goal. Otsego simply failed to bury their chances to level, and went into the break trailing.
The host team played with a fire and intensity that allowed them to be first to the vast majority of 50/50 balls, put our attackers off their shot even when they seemed destined to score, and set a physical tone for the match. Few players in Otsego colors seemed determined to match that on the night, but credit is due to Avery Henckel and Mikayla Bryant in particular for the energy they gave and the determination they showed. In the end it was not enough as the early goal held up for Vicksburg, and Otsego was handed their first loss in conference play.
